President’s Message

Happy Summer! Hopefully everyone is having a wonderful summer season and enjoying the beautiful Colorado outdoors and everything our state has to offer. CAMFT has some exciting upcoming events - so mark your calendar now and plan on joining your colleagues!

First off, our CAMFT Annual Conference “Healing the Traumatized Family” featuring speakers Dr. Terry Levy and Dr. Michael Orlands will be held on Friday, September 21st at the Denver Sheraton West Hotel. This year’s conference will be better than ever with our speakers excited to bring audio and video presentations to enhance our learning experience and see this new and exciting therapuetic philosophy. Register early and save on the registration fee!

Secondly, in May, Senate Bill 36 was signed into law by Governor Bill Ritter. Having this bill signed is huge for our profession as marriage and family therapists and the citizens of our state. Senate Bill 36 now requires health insurance companies to cover treatment for biologically based mental illnesss as define in the DSM. Having this law will help countless numbers of individuals and families access the treatment and cover servicesthey need in order to be well.

Please feel free to contact myself or any of our board members personally to answer questions about our organization or to talk about how CAMFT can help work for you as a Marriage and Family Therapist. The board will not meet in June or July for SUmmer vacation; making our next board meeting Friday, Auggust 24th from 4:00-6:00pm at my office, 8220 East Belleview Avenue, Suite 312-C, Greenwood Village, Colorado 80111, 720-489-5150. Please know that Board meetings are always open to all CAMFT members and the Board would love to have your input.
